It's a cultural practice to reflect on your past year with the coming of a new one. Photos have that powerful ability to open a window to memory and aid in reminiscing about those past experiences. As professional photographers, we're up to our ears in photos, but we still find time every year to review through and try to find some of our favourites from the past 365 days. Photography is amazing because no matter how many thousands of shots, both for business and personal use we have taken, we always find those singular frames that sum up a whole feeling, or a moment of learning, or something special we're just happy to have been a part of.
Here's a collection of those favourite shots, and a few stories along the way.
Last year The 2018 Grey Cup was announced as taking place in Edmonton. The CFL commissioned us to take a number of photos of the cup around the city for the grand unveiling and promotional material. We got to meet Jeff, one of the keepers of the cup (such a cool gig) and photograph him at Commonwealth Stadium.
This was for the Global Women of Vision program/project created by Lesley MacDonald. This year we were brought on to be the official photographer's for WoV and doing monthly shots in studio of the recipients.
Above: A fun project for Berlin Communications that had us flying around in a helicopter for FRIAA.
We spent a full week out in the Okanagan, at Summerland, BC's Waterfront resort capturing a big collection of lifestyle images that show the beauty and ammenities there.
Above: A shot in the River Valley for Edmonton Tourism at golden hour with friends.
Another Edmonton tourism shot. We often get good friends to help us out as shoots demand things like running up stairs.
An exciting lifestyle project, we can't share the full details yet of where this is going, but it's gonna be big!!
Sorrentino's Compassion House Foundation was one of our very first clients years ago, and we still work with them regularly. Their annual Fashion With Compassion fundraising event features women that have stayed in the house come to the show as special models and bravely go on stage and share their stories of community and the strength they found within it, and why Compassion House is so important. This year we approached them to do portraits of the special models as a reminder to the women of this powerful moment and to share this part of the story with even more people who couldn't attend the gala.
This year was a big one for new restaurants in Edmonton. We
ate shot a lot of food all over. Above is for Avenue Edmonton's Fave Eats issue which was a huge feature piece, and below is some shots recently done for the new spot off Whyte called Pip.
An incredible fun shoot for ATB that is getting released in 2018
Thomas had the opportunity to Shoot in the Philippines this year!
We started shooting more video this year. Here is a quick video we made with our talented friend Jodie Bailey.
